WHY TEACH TECHNOLOGY?

Do you want to..

  • feel needed by others

  • create the future and technological literate citizens

  • do something different everyday

  • have a job that is in demand

  • teach students about the latest in technological applications

... then becoming a technology education teacher is for you.

Educators in the technology field have chosen to teach this curriculum for a variety of reasons. Below are just a few.

"I can think of no other curricular area that effectively taps into a student's creativity, desire for group collaboration, and individual gifts and talents, the way technology education does."

"After a wonderful 15 years of technology teaching, I could never be confined to the teaching of one subject within the boundaries of a single classroom. Technology education encompases as many environs as it does domains. There is never a dull moment as the ever-present learning curve challenges both student and teacher."

"I enjoy teaching technology because it truly makes learning come alive!

Technology is an ever-changing field; never dull.

Technology classes get kids out of their seats and into situations that mirror what they'll find in the real world.

Technology education is the bridge between academics and the real world!

I like teaching technology because it is the most dynamic subject in a school. While other teachers are covering the same stuff I learned in school decades ago, technology teachers are working with some of the newest challenges in the field.

I like teaching technology because I get to see the world outside the classroom. Educational field trips take me inside local industries and participation in professional organizations like ITEA afford me the opportunity to travel to major U.S. cities to attend conferences. Even after 25 years in the classroom, I still love learning!

I like solving problems. My motto is to leave the planet better than I found it. Technology teaching allows me to do just that. I feel like I make a difference in people's lives. It's a lot of work but it's fun!

"In my career, I have been a manager for a Fortune 500 company, a secondary school administrator, and a technology education instructor. I can't think of anything I would rather do than get up in the morning, run to school and spend the day with 150 supercharged middle school students eager to see how our ever-evolving technological world functions. There is a special satisfaction teaching technology education that I never felt in my other positions. The local, state, and national collegiality of technology educators professionally is very rewarding and energizing. This truly is a great profession to be a part of."

A technology education teacher's days are filled with the excitement of teaching students how to learn, experiment, and find answers to problems. To hear a student say, "Boy that was fun," or "Look what we did" as they complete an activity is very rewarding. Investigate the job possibilities today!
